Brew Monday – 17th January

Brew Monday is a Samaritans initiative to remind everyone to reach out for a cuppa and a catch-up with the people they care about. Plus, after the last couple of years, with restrictions and not being able to see one another as we would have liked, it’s more important than ever to look out for one another and ask, “Are you ok?” It may just be the outlet they have been waiting for but were too scared to ask for.

Monday 17th January, or Blue Monday, is regarded by some as the most depressing day of the year, as people still have a while to wait until payday after maybe spending too much over the festive period, the days are short, the nights are long, and the weather is grey and cold. But here at Nottingham BID, we say nonsense!! It's just another day for making a positive impact and being the best person you can be, and what better way than reaching out to a friend or colleague and having a good old natter over a brew.

With so many venues in and across the city selling hot drinks and tasty accompanying treats to enjoy whilst sitting inside the warm, or better still, why not grab a hot drink in your reusable cup and take yourself off for a walk around the fabulous city of Nottingham, what is there to be blue about?!

Nottingham has some incredible architecture which we often don’t realise is there as we rush through the city, focused on where we are going or looking down at our phones. Take time to look up and you may just see something you hadn’t noticed which you have walked past every day. It will feel like you’re discovering the city all over again.

If you fancy keeping some extra special relaxing teas in your work desk drawer to enjoy, then why not check out stores like Boots, Holland & Barrett, Whittards, Sostrene Grene and Oriental Mart who all offer great hot drink options at prices to sort everyone’s budget. If your job involves sitting at a desk all day, it's easy to forget to take a short break and reset your mind. Having a nice calming drink of tea is a great way of destressing as you step away from your laptop.

Other ways in which you can combat Blue Monday is by starting your day off with a yoga session, whether that be online at home or at a class in the city, taking yourself off for an early morning run, taking the dog for a walk or taking time for mindfulness via an app on your phone or simply reading a book with your early morning brew. There are so many reasons why 17th January is not Blue Monday at all.
