Nottingham BID are seeking a designer to work on our Nottingham Independents brand.

Nottingham is on the cusp of an incredibly exciting time in its history. With an unprecedented series of developments including the £2bn regeneration of Southside and the £30m transformation of Nottingham Castle well underway, 2021 will be a huge year for the city to reposition itself with a range of audience groups.

It is recognised that the city must make the most of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to promote itself on the national and international stage – ultimately to bring economic benefits to the city and greater prosperity for local people.

Nottingham independent businesses are what makes our city unique and they play a crucial part in Nottingham’s future. This is a creative and rebellious city, highlighted by the small businesses and pockets of street art found throughout; it is an exciting place to be! We (Nottingham BID) want this re-branding to aid in attracting the best talent to study, work and live here.

Our current stage in the process

We have an existing brand, Nottingham Independents, which was a result of consultation with the Nottingham BID’s Nottingham Independents Advisory Group, which itself is made up of small business owners in the city centre. The current logo can be found in Appendix.1

Nottingham BID will facilitate a virtual meeting between the successful design agency and local businesses to gather the independents feedback on the brand. We hope to have retail, hospitality, and services (such as hairdressers and beauty salons) represented as well as the views of Nottingham BID.

This will then form the basis of work from which the successful agency will be expected to add their expertise helping to add a final level of technical professionalism and creativity whilst also acting as a critical friend, casting a dispassionate eye over the initial work and sense checking it.

Scope of the work

It is expected that the contractor or individual will fulfil the following tasks:

  • To workshop with Nottingham Independents prior to designing to establish if a new brand title is desired/ gather all feedback.
  • To work with Nottingham BID to re-design the Nottingham Independents logo
  • To create a digital toolkit from which Nottingham BID can work from
